In December 1985, 36-year-old trapper Mike Riemer took his girlfriend, Diana Robertson, and their daughter, Crystal, into the woods near Tacoma, Washington to look for a Christmas tree. That afternoon, Crystal was found wandering around a department store without her parents. She was later identified after her photo was placed in the newspaper and her maternal grandmother recognized her. Mike and Diana had vanished without a trace, and all Crystal could tell police was that "Mommy is in the trees".

Two months later, Diana's body was found deep in the forest around Elbe, Washington. She had been stabbed seventeen times and had a tube sock tied around her neck; there was no sign of Mike*. His truck, which was nearby, had blood stains on the front seat and a note on the dashboard that read, "I love you, Diana." Although her mother believed that it was his handwriting, it could not be confirmed.

Police believed him to be responsible for her murder as well as a double murder that occurred in the same woods four months earlier-- A man named Stephen Harkins was found shot to death in his sleeping bag. His companion, Ruth Cooper, was found strangled two months later. They were camping in the same area where Mike set his traps. Both Ruth and Diane had been killed with the tube sock tied in the same way.

* Mikes skull would be found years later in the area by hikers and his time of death was the same as his wife's. Proving he was not the killer.

In addition to these two couples, another four (or five, depending on the source) couples have been found murdered in the general area over the following 2+ decades, leading many to believe there is an *unknown* serial killer hunting in the area.

So what do you all think? This was the first time I have heard of the case and I think its interesting (if unlikely it will ever be solved).
