It's been nearly 9 years since this topic was discussed so I thought I'd bring it up again. A documentary on the case popped up in my YouTube suggestions last week so I saved it to watch at another time. Yesterday I decided to at least start watching/listening to it while at work and have been finishing up the story this morning.
It is a disturbing story, to be sure: an 11 year old girl living in Scotswood - an inner-city suburb of Newcastle-upon-Tyne - murdered two little boys, aged 3 and 4, who lived and played in her neighborhood. Her mother was a prostitute and, according to the documentary, heavily into BDSM with her clients. The father figure in her life tended toward violence and Mary's parents often fought. In the end, Mary was sentenced to a life term and lived at Red Bank in Lancashire until age 21. While looking up exactly what Red Bank is, I found a 19 year old story by the British newspaper Independent about a police investigation into the place regarding sexual abuse suffered by Mary while there. She was, after all, the only female there, so it's not really surprising to me that there would be a scummy bloke or two working there who took advantage of the situation. By age 23, Mary was out of the prison system and has lived under an assumed name ever since.
Anyone here remember this case? Have any thoughts?
Here's the link to the report and then the documentary I found on YouTube...
